Did any girl in the 80s NOT have a crush on Andrew McCarthy? He was so dreamy in the unthreatening kind of way that we all fell for back then…

God I pine for the outlaw-rock days of the 80s. Everything seems so commercial and safe these days by comparison! Back when men were inappropriately skinny and wore makeup and had amazingly big hair held back by headbands there were a handful of bands who lived and breathed the lifestyle. Two of those bands take centre stage in this week’s double play!
First I give you the one and only Motley Crue with their best song, Kickstart My Heart!

I came across this awesome vid in my regular trawling of YouTube. I was like, hell yeah! to every point – how many do you agree with?

I am STILL not well – and totally over it! So, this week I’m picking two songs for the double play that make me feel good!
First, in honour of the sun finally warming up here in Melbourne, is Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. I don’t know how anyone could listen to this song and not smile!
I’ve got something a little different in store for you all in the coming weeks – from Monday I’ll be digging up some of my favorite posts since I started Pop 80s exactly 2 years previous (to the day!). I’ve had so much fun and I’m glad to have such a huge number of awesome readers tuning in every week, especially those who take the time to email me or hit me up on Twitter. You’re all awesome! I hope you’ll join me next week to look back at some of the best days of Pop 80s! Until then, here’s a random video…
Last week during Diva Week I came across some great old Cher videos. I didn’t have time to post them last week, so today I’m posting two!

The first video caused a bit of a stir when it was released in ’89 – Cher, on a ship, surrounded by Navy boys and wearing almost nothing… today that might seem old hat since most female singers get around in similar outfits to pop down to the shops for the milk, but back then – BAM!
Next, from the AWESOME movie Mermaids, The Shoop Shoop Song, with Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci joining Cher in the clip:
