In the 80s, it was all about MTV. When it first started, MTV was all about playing music videos and it changed the face of music, literally – now we could see all of our fave musicians prancing around in wacky clips!
When I was growing up in the 80s, my sister and I were obsessed with music and music videos in particular. We used to get up early on weekends to watch Video Hits and RAGE (Aussie music programs) and we’d tape all of our favourite clips and play them back all day. That was just what you did then!

We were so obsessed, and just crazy enough, that when my Grandparents bought a video camera (not everyone had one back then!) and let us use it (well, my Dad had to use it – we weren’t allowed to touch it!), we naturally made our very own MTV.
Yes, there were costumes, there was singing and there was dancing. We did a countdown of parodies of popular songs with stupid replacement lyrics. We did an interview with our little sister as a Ninja Turtle. We even had our own MTV theme song.

Yes folks, this is all on tape. And a couple of years ago, my Grandma had them all transferred to DVD! Oh, the horror!

I loved Rage and Video Hits. I don't watch them anymore because they don't play 80's music! I remember 1989 and playing club squash every Saturday morning. We would all wait around and see what was number 1 this week. I remember Madonna and Like A Prayer and there was Age of Reason by John Farnham and Daryl Braithwaite and Wendy Matthews.
I wish they played more 80's music. Luckily we have Foxtel now and channels like Music Max and VH1 who play the Top 500 songs from the 80's!
Nice blog Jenna! And when do we get to see this DVD? You know you gotta upload a clip now.

I don't have Foxtel anymore, but I loved VH1! Great music. These days you can just sit on YouTube and watch everything, so it's not the same! Just like you can iTunes all the songs you like – back in the day we had to sit by the radio and tape everything we loved!
Oh yeah and… I'll NEVER post a clip! EVER!
I really loved your story, It's remind me my childhood
