Karen Booth, author of Bring Me Back, is our guest DJ today! She has chosen two songs for Double Play Wednesday that tie in with her new book… how do they fit in? You’ll have to check out the book to find out!
First up is the one and only Duran Duran with Save a Prayer.
The excitement is growing! I’ll be seeing the Boss LIVE in just over 24 hours! For today’s double play, here are the two songs that I want him to play most. The Boss is well known for changing his setlist constantly – so what he plays to the crowd tonight could be completely different to what we get tomorrow! I know he has played my first choice recently, but I haven’t seen the second on a setlist in a while – I wonder if I’ll get to hear it!
First, the amazing Promised Land (yes, from the 70s, but it’s unbelievable!).
At first I thought – how am I going to do my regular Double Play Wednesday with a zombie theme? Have I bitten off more than I can chew (zombie pun)?
And then about 2 seconds later I remembered the scariest thing I ever saw as a kid – Thriller by Michael Jackson. I’m still scared!
Next I remembered that good old Billy Idol jumped on the zombie train with the clip to his song, Dancing With Myself. If anyone can kill a horde of undead, it’s Sir Idol – I want him on my team (mostly for the cool factor).
Wang Chung Week continues! My interview with Nick Feldman is coming up on Friday, but until then it’s time to either familiarize or reacquaint yourself with the music that made the band great.
First, this is my personal favorite song of theirs – Dance Hall Days. This is a perfect piece of 80s dance pop, which I happen to think still sounds amazing!
Next, of course, is the song that cemented the band’s place in pop culture history – Everybody Have Fun Tonight! (everybody Wang Chung tonight!)
Ah, the 80s Christmas song! It doesn’t seem to be much of a trend these days, but back in the day anyone who was anyone used to record at least one Christmas song to get us in the festive spirit. Today, I give you my two favorites!
First, here’s one you might not have heard before – Madonna recorded this super cutesy version of Santa Baby for a Christmas album. It doesn’t even sound like her, but I love it! (This video randomly has the clip from Material Girl!)
Second, alright, possibly the cheesiest song of all time but I couldn’t leave it out – Last Christmas by Wham!
Even though I post a lot of rock and pop on this blog, I’m actually a really big rap and hip hop fan, especially the originals from the 80s. Bobby Brown was so cool back in the 80s, in a way that seemed so effortless. That’s why today’s double play stars the man himself!
First, probably his most famous song, My Prerogative.
Next, my personal fave song of his – Every Little Step.
