When it came to hairstyles in the 80s, there was one to rule them all – the mullet. All business at the front and party at the back, the mullet is probably the most enduring hair memory of the 80s… or any decade! Today I’m counting down my top 5 most awesome mullets.
5. Billy Ray Cyrus
Billy Ray actually became famous in the 90s, but understand that if he was technically 80s he would have taken out the top spot! As famous for his amazing mullet as his ridiculous song Achy Breaky Heart, Billy Ray sure looked like he never left the 80s so I think he was a worthy inclusion on the list!
I seriously loved this show. Macgyver could do anything – he could probably build a rocket to the moon with only a paper clip, a cardboard box and a can of hairspray. Of course, the hairspray would also have been useful for keeping his brilliant blonde mullet in place!
3. John Stamos
This one pains me a little, because I had a mega crush on Uncle Jesse when he was on Full House. I didn’t really remember the extent of the mullet, though! I’m sure he cleaned himself up a bit as the show continued, but I think he still pulled off the mullet look pretty well!
2. Keifer Sutherland
The dashing Keifer was in a bunch of the best movies of the 80s, including the Lost Boys – a teen vampire movie (with no sparkling…). He had the leather, the teeth, and the bleached-blonde mullet. Scary AND sexy!
1. Joan Jett
Ha! Mullets weren’t just for boys! Some women also sported them and I think you’ll agree Joan Jett managed to rock the look better than anyone. The guitarist for the Runaways who went on to have a massive solo career, this rock chick could do no wrong when it came to music OR fashion.
