80s Top 5… Prince Looks

On Wednesday I posted two very rainy songs, one being Purple Rain by Prince. This got me thinking about the man and his spectacular fashion choices in the 80s and beyond. Think, the male Lady Gaga! He was doing it all 20 years ago, and doing it well. So, this week’s Top 5 is a tribute to Prince’s many fab 80s looks!

5. The Glasses

Check out these glasses. Do I need to say anything more?!

When Doves Cry

4. The Frills

This was definitely Prince’s signature look in the 80s. The high frilled collar suited him perfectly!

3. The Frills…. Part 2!

I had to include this picture as well – because it is so iconic, from Purple Rain. I love that it’s a tougher, more futuristic use of the frills and jacket than the previous look.

2. The Yellow Jumpsuit

Wow. Just, wow. Prince wore this to the VMAs in 1991, but it was just too good not to include! He was certainly pushing the boundaries back in the 80s! (And I think yellow is his color ;) )

Amazing Yellow Jumpsuit!

1. The Romantic

Sigh. White suit, pretty flowers, sexy stare. Prince had something few have been able to match since!

What a Romantic!

What are some of your favorite Prince looks?

80s Fashion – Top 5 Best Dressed Females

And so we come to the end of 80s Fashion Month! It has been so much fun for me, going back and looking at all of my favorite styles of the decade and I hope you’ve enjoyed what I’ve come up with. For the final day of Fashion Month, I’m presenting my list of the top 5 best dressed females of the 80s. (Don’t forget you still have time to enter the competition to win $50 worth of Zazzle products!)

5. Molly Ringwald

Such a cutie, and that extended to her fashion choices – floaty dresses, flower hats and lots of pink!

4. Julia Roberts

In the 80s she made Pretty Woman, which had the most amazing fashion. But Miss Roberts had a wonderful style of her own, very soft and feminine and dreamy, with a lot of 80s blazers. She was (and is) a stunning lady.

3. Joan Collins

Dynasty! What a show! It was a classic (fairly awful) soap opera, but the fashion was incredibly influential. Joan Collins was the show’s brightest star and made power dressing popular – think bright colors, OTT makeup and massive, massive shoulder pads.

2. Debbie Harry

The lead singer of Blondie, Debbie had an eclectic style that made her the decade’s alternative princess. That two-tone hair, the punkish outfits and the permanent scowl – perfection!

1. Madonna

A little predictable maybe, but I don’t see how I could have chosen anyone else for the top spot. Not only was she incredibly stylish, but she was one of the biggest personal trendsetters that popular culture has ever seen. A true legend!

80s Fashion – Top 5 Best Dressed Males

Today and tomorrow, the final days of 80s Fashion Month, I am going to reveal my top 5 best dressed males and females of the decade. Don’t forget to enter the competition to win $50 worth of Zazzle products – you have until September 5 to comment on a post to go into the draw.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

5. Andrew McCarthy

He might seem like a strange choice to make the top 5 – after all, didn’t he get around in sweaters and blazers for most of the decade? Well, yes, but that is why he made the list! Not only was this style massive in the 80s, it also suited him perfectly. You’ve got to love a guy who knows what he looks good in.
