80s Fashion Month – Runway Models

All this week we have been looking at supermodels and the effect they had on 80s fashion.

To finish, here’s a great vintage video of a Louis Feraud show in 1986. I LOVE this! I love how dramatic and full of personality it is, compared to what we see on runways now (those disaffected 90s sure got in the way of a good time!).

80s Music – Supermodel Music Videos

Supermodels were some of the biggest celebrity icons of the 80s, as we looked at in Monday’s post.  And, as I mentioned, they had the tendency to date musicians – rock stars and supermodels go together like chocolate and ice cream! So it’s no surprise that they started turning up in music videos during the 80s. Today I present two of the best!

80s Supermodels

First, this is the big one – in 1990 George Michael gathered together some of the most famous Supermodels of the 80s to star in his music video for Freedom, including Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz, and Cindy Crawford…

80s Fashion Month – Rise of the Supermodel

The 80s were a decadent decade. There was oodles of dollars being thrown around everywhere, quite unlike the state of the world now. So, it is not surprising that fashion was incredibly luxe in the 80s and nothing was more OTT than high fashion. Hot designers included Calvin Klein, Chanel and Ralph Lauren.

Fittingly, the 80s was also when the Supermodel became famous worldwide. Christie Brinkley, Elle MacPherson, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Carol Alt and Christy Turlington all became household names and changed the way we viewed modelling and the fashion industry itself. They were beautiful and fabulous, dated rock stars and A-list actors, and led lives of non-stop partying and luxury – which is what everyone wanted in the 80s! They also starred in some great 80s music videos, two of which will star in Wednesday’s Double Play.

80s Fashion Month – Men’s Hairstyles

Wow, this has been a whole week about 80s hair! But it was a big part of 80s fashion, so I think it was a fitting place to start. On Monday we looked at women’s hairstyles, but let’s not forget the men, who had some amazing dos of their own! Check them out below and have a great weekend… on Monday we’ll be back for more great fashion!

80s Music – 80s Hair Double Play

Double Play Wednesday will continue all throughout 80s Fashion Month! To fit in with the theme all the videos will contain some of the best fashion of the decade. To start us off, like Monday’s post today is all about 80s hair!

David Coverdale (Whitesnake)

First, the men – and who had better hair than all the fab hair bands who entertained us during the 80s? It’s hard to choose who was the best, but I’m going with Whitesnake today. David Coverdale had some brilliant hair, indeed! This one is Here I Go Again.

Next, the women – I decided to go with that total style icon, Madonna (who will feature quite a bit this month, I think!). I particularly love the orange headband in this vid, Borderline.
