Double Play Wednesday – Glory Daze

For today’s double play, I decided to post a couple of songs I heard in the first episode of Glory Daze, which I reviewed on Monday.

First, Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes:

The Monday Review – Glory Daze

The Monday Review – Glory Daze

I happened across a new TV show tonight that is, oh-so-happily, set in the 80s! It’s called Glory Daze and follows the story of a group of college freshmen in 1986. Now, before you get too excited, the show has been cancelled and only about 10 episodes are available to watch. But I think it’s worth a look anyway!

Glory Daze is your standard frat-boy comedy. There are gross-out scenes, silly pranks, very little schooling and a whole lot of emphasis on barely-clad females. Of course, what makes this so great is that those females are barely-clad in 80s clothes! And have 80s hair! And there’s 80s music! Ahhhhh, bliss!

So far I have only watched the first episode, but I will watch the rest and probably feel sad when I get to the end. There really does need to be way more TV shows set in the 80s, definitely a void to fill there. Nothing about this show was groundbreaking, it is a little silly and I’m sure it won’t be anyone’s all-time fave. But, an 80s show is an 80s show! Check it out if you have the opportunity!

Fab Friday – Astro Boy

Fab Friday – Astro Boy

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas! I’m back from my break and ready to hit the 80s with a vengeance this 2011!! Continuing on with my cartoon theme from last week, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about my fave cartoon from my childhood, Astro Boy.

As it has been reiterated on my Facebook page, Astro Boy did start out in the 50s/60s, but was remade in the 80s, which is when I discovered it. Now, an embarrassing admission: Astro Boy was my first crush. And yes, I was crushed when I realised he was not only a robot (non-human), but also a cartoon character (very non-human). Ah, such is life!

Double Play Wednesday – Cartoon Themes

Yes, I’m continuing the cartoon theme all week! For your double play this week, have two of the best cartoon themes of the decade!

First, I love Dinosaucers! Because it’s so darned random and I don’t understand it, but that just makes it cooler!

Manic Monday – The Smurfs

Manic Monday – The Smurfs

Over at my 80s tribute page on Facebook, we’ve been talking about 80s cartoons for the last couple of weeks. One title that came up over and over again was the Smurfs, those lovable little blue creatures. This show was a staple of my childhood, we watched it every day it was on and loved it!

Of course now that I’m older some of it seems strange (don’t pretend you haven’t thought about why Smurfette was the only girl you ever saw in the village!), but regardless it’s such a cutesy, timeless show.

Manic Monday – Seinfeld

Manic Monday – Seinfeld

I have a confession. When Seinfeld was first on, I hated it. Granted, I didn’t give it much of a chance, but while all my friends loved it, I couldn’t stand the show. Then, I saw the Close Talker episode and Kramer did something so funny I couldn’t stop laughing and that was it – I was hooked!

Seinfeld was more of a 90s show, however it began in 1989, so I am of course claiming it as ours! I love George, I love Elaine and I love all of their random little bits like the pirate shirt and the close talker and what not. It’s the sort of show I can watch repeats of and still laugh – sign of a great comedy.
